Microsoft Access for Beginners - Additional Information
Data Access Pages
Data Access Pages were introduced with Access 2000 as a way to present Access data through a web page that could be placed on a company intranet or on the Internet for public use. They were meant to allow both viewing and editing of data through a web interface.
Data Access Pages were featured in Access 2000 through 2003. Support for the technology ended with the release of Access 2007. The pages can only be created in the versions of Access mentioned above and can only be viewed if one of these Access versions or an installation of the Office Web Components is present on the machine.
An addition, Data Access Pages can only be viewed in Internet Explorer 5.5 or later. They cannot be viewed through Firefox, Chrome or any browser other than Internet Explorer.
It is my view that Data Access Pages were an intermediary attempt at the web-based data solutions now found through ASP.NET and other technologies. They represented a great idea that wasn't quite ready for primetime. Because of their limitations and obsolete status, I've chosen not to write about them here.
