System Requirements and Prerequisites
Most items are presented for download in ZIP format. If your system is not capable of reading ZIP files, you can download the shareware version of WinZIP at the official site.
Microsoft Access
Programs designed with Microsoft Access are offered in one of the database formats associated with that software (MDB, ACCDB, etc..) and require either Access or the Access runtime to function. If you do not have Microsoft Access, you can download a free version of the Access 2007 runtime from Microsoft which will enable you to run Access databases with the design features removed. This runtime requires Windows XP Service Pack 2 or later.
When opening Access files with the Access 2007
runtime, you may receive a notice like this one:
This is part of Microsoft's security precautions and simply indicates that:
- It cannot identify the source of this content (Drewslair.com).
- The Access file format is capable of carrying harmful code, therefore
- You should exercise your best judgment in running it.
For more information, see Microsoft's article on Access 2007 security at:

Microsoft.NET
The .NET framework is a prerequisite for running applications written in the current generation of Microsoft languages including Visual Basic and C#. It is a framework that offers common functionality between languages and between platforms such as Windows and web development.
As of May 2010, .NET 4.0 is the current version of this framework and it is available as a Windows update from Microsoft at http://www.microsoft.com/net/.
Projects designed in Microsoft Visual Studio and offered for download here on Drewslair.com may be available as one or more of the following options:
- EXE Only - If you already have Microsoft Visual Studio and/or the necessary version of .NET installed on your system, you can download the executable file and run it from any location on your computer.
- Installation Package - These downloads will be available in a ZIP file with a Setup.exe that you can run to start the ClickOnce deployment package. This installation package will detect if you do not have the required framework installed on your machine and will download and install it with your permission. The package will then install the program within your Windows user profile and create the necessary menu options on your Start menu. You will be able to uninstall the program if necessary from the Add / Remove Software option in your Control Panel.
- Program Code - Selected components or entire projects may be made available as source code that can be viewed and compiled with the specified version(s) of Visual Studio. More information on the latest edition of Visual Studio can be found on Microsoft's official site for the product. Free express editions of these products are also available.
